Make things clear about the engagement and wedding rings

Understanding the distinction between your engagement ring and wedding band may seem complicated, but it’s pretty elementary once you get the hang of it.

Wedding bands and engagement rings seem different! Do they?

You may be wondering if you need both an engagement ring and a wedding band, and if you do which one you should buy first. The answer is that the two are distinct, and while the engagement ring comes first, you could wind up getting either one or both. It’s up to individual taste and the nature of the couple involved. Even though most married couples still opt to do both, it’s not a law that you must. Women typically only wear two rings during their lifetime: an engagement ring and a wedding band.

How to wear engagement and wedding rings?

Putting the engagement band and the wedding ring on the same finger might confuse many ladies. Others opt to take off the engagement ring and wear only the wedding band.

It’s recommended to keep both the engagement ring and wedding band, and they can be worn in any order. It’s important to note that not all rings are designed to be stacked, so keep this in mind. If stacking the rings is not possible, then you can always explore other options available at a jewelry store. Therefore, having the option of moving to plan B can be helpful to find a solution that works best for you.

Your wedding band should go on the left hand and your engagement ring on the right. It’s also possible to wear the rings adjacent to each other if this isn’t a good fit. If you want your wedding band and engagement ring to be on display, you can wear them on the same hand.

In addition, some women are still unsure which hand is appropriate for the rings, which may be due to custom. In ancient Rome, wearing one’s rings on the left hand was customary.

Engagement rings in the West, including North America and South America, are traditionally worn on the right hand, while wedding bands are usually worn on the left. The tradition of wearing the wedding ring on the right hand has spread over much of Europe. While it was considered filthy to wear a wedding band on the left hand, modern Indians have begun to do so to conform to cultural norms. To signify their commitment, Asian couples often wear their wedding rings on the left hand.

Because of the diversity of cultures and beliefs, both rings can be worn on either the right or left hand. The use of the left hand, however, is commonplace.

Are both rings necessary?

As with so many other things, it boils down to individual taste. That is, assuming the classic style is to your liking. Combining an engagement ring with a wedding band is an ever-classic and elegant choice, but you can wear a single ring that serves as both an engagement and wedding ring. Some brides prefer to wear just one wedding band for the reasons listed below:

  • Compared to wearing a wedding band and an engagement ring together, a single ring might be more convenient and less noticeable while still looking incredibly lovely.
  • If you tend to misplace things frequently, having fewer rings to keep track of is a big help.
  • Buying the rings as a pair also eliminates the hassle of finding a wedding band that goes with your engagement ring.

There is no correct way to buy, design, or even just wear a wedding or engagement ring. Whether you wear no rings at all, one ring, two rings, three rings, or more, the important thing is that the ring (or rings) you choose to symbolize your love and marriage will have meaning for you for the rest of your lives.
